Bio

Hi, my name's Jim, but you probably know that already.

I was born in Texas, but moved to Nashville at a young age.  Growing up in a place called "Music City" makes a life and career full of music seem inevitable, and it all started around age 12 when (to my neighbors' chagrin) I first started playing the drums.  From there I expanded to the rest of the percussion family, which would lead to piano, voice, guitar, composition, conducting, and beyond.

I studied at Columbia College of Chicago under several award-winning and accomplished composers including Ilya Levinson, Marcos Balter, Andrew Edwards, and Gary Chang.  Two degrees in hand (Bachelor of Music in Composition and Master of Fine Arts in Music Composition for the Screen), I shipped off to Los Angeles to chase my dream of writing music for film, television, and video games.

Since that fateful summer of 2013, I have had the pleasure of contributing to many incredible projects including major blockbuster video games, short independent films, fantasy and dramatic television shows, independent computer games, a couple orchestral live concerts, and even two operas!  I feel incredibly fortunate to have the wisdom and guidance of the legendary Jack Wall, with whom I have worked for over half a decade.

In my elusive free time, I enjoy watching and playing hockey (Go Blackhawks!), reading, playing video games, and spending time with friends and family.
